Museums Open on Ferragosto 2026: What to Visit in Naples and Campania

Ferragosto will once again be a great opportunity to enjoy art, history and culture. On Saturday, August 15, 2026, museums, archaeological parks and many state-run cultural sites across Italy will remain open to the public, giving residents and visitors the chance to spend the holiday discovering some of the country’s most important cultural treasures.

The initiative has been confirmed by the Italian Ministry of Culture and includes not only museums, but also castles, abbeys, monumental complexes, villas, gardens and archaeological sites throughout the country.

Visits will take place according to the usual opening hours and the access arrangements established by each individual site. Where required, advance booking will therefore still be necessary.

It is also important to note that admission on August 15 is not free. Regular entrance fees will apply, except for any discounts or free admission already offered by the individual museums and cultural sites.

Museums Open in Naples on Ferragosto

Naples will offer plenty of opportunities to spend Ferragosto surrounded by art, archaeology and history.

Among the main museums and cultural attractions open in the city will be:

  • Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte
  • Royal Palace of Naples
  • Museo Pignatelli
  • National Archaeological Museum of Naples
  • Certosa and Museum of San Martino
  • Castel Sant’Elmo e Museo Novecento a Napoli
  • Duca di Martina National Ceramic Museum at Villa Floridiana

Ferragosto is therefore an excellent opportunity for both visitors and local residents to rediscover some of Naples’ most important artistic and historical landmarks.

Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Sites Will Also Be Open

The special Ferragosto openings also include some of Campania’s most important archaeological destinations.

Among the sites open to visitors will be the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum and the sites managed by the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park.

August 15 can therefore become the perfect occasion for a different kind of day out, with a choice of museums, monuments and archaeological sites both in Naples and throughout Campania.

Before visiting, it is always advisable to check the opening hours, admission procedures and whether advance booking is required by the chosen museum or archaeological site.
